Memes are a staple for Pastiche Lumumba, whose 36 minute design session saw the artist, curator, and former director of the LOW museum position a Black precarity wherein subjects are enveloped into various processes of operational labor and production, yet still manage to engage in acts of preservation exogenous to care: ornamentation.
Pastiche and N-Prolenta’s joint response was to give “oozing parts that [are] complete” by offering up the “data resins” from other objects produced during the 36 minutes sessions. The purchase of a data resin is essentially the purchase of the rights to an image; and makes a movement in line with Pastiche’s own namesake. These objects affirm ornamentations not only as ostentatious frivolities, but also as full-on containers for value– and where subsequently applicable, as strawmen for the implicit value of the bodies who generate them.
